Mike Best
Mike has been an Estyn registered Inspector since 1998 and has led inspections in English medium nursery, infant, junior and primary schools across Wales. As an Estyn Additional Inspector, he has tutored update training courses for RgI, team and lay inspectors, Inspector Training courses and Peer Assessor and Nominee training courses.
Nick Jones
Nick presents in both Welsh and English. He brings a contemporary edge to the workshops, as he is currently a serving headteacher in West Wales. His school was recently inspected and graded as outstanding in all aspects of its work. Outstanding teaching in his school was four times greater than the national average.
He is a Registered Inspector and has worked for Estyn as a secondee and Additional Inspector. He has inspected schools and tutored nominees, peer assessors and inspectors in all parts of Wales. He has tutored for the local authority, training governors on financial management and has worked as an external adviser with many schools in South West Wales on performance management.
He was recently featured in the Times Educational Supplement in the 'Personally Yours' section, relating to his work at school and in the Inspectorate.
Sue Gray
Sue is a retired primary school headteacher who enjoyed 22 years of successful headship. She has worked as an LEA primary adviser, leading the training of headteachers, teachers and teaching assistants, including taking County responsibility for the implementation of workforce remodelling in schools. Sue works as a part-time lecturer in Swansea Metropolitan University on the Graduate Diploma, as an NPQH tutor and as a Performance Management Adviser. She is a Welsh Assembly Government trainer and assessor for the Higher Level Teaching Assistant Qualification.
Paul de Vall
Paul, until recently, was Senior Adviser in the City and County of Swansea. He was headteacher of two primary schools before entering the advisory service. He was a Registered Inspector in Wales for over fourteen years and led inspections in most areas of South Wales. He now works part-time for Swansea Metropolitan University. He has a particular interest and expertise in school self evaluation – how it can be led and managed to ensure that it benefits all those involved in the school, not least the children.
