Preparing for Inspection using the 2010 Framework

Schools inspected in 2005-06 are due for re-inspection in 2011-12 with only a 4 week notice.This workshop draws on materials from the previous Part 1 & 2 with particular emphasis on the impact of changes in inspection practice, especially with regard to demonstrating pupils' progress, well-being and the use of assessment information in driving up the quality of teaching.
The sessions include:

Over the Rainbow & Into Inspection

Over the Rainbow and Into Inspection provides senior leaders and managers with a step-by-step guide to managing your inspection from the very moment Estyn ring you to announce your inspection. The Rainbow File is designed to support and guide you every step of the way. It includes valuable ideas for ensuring that everything goes well with timely reminders to help you keep up with, if not ahead, of the inspection team.
The one day workshop includes training on observing lessons, which is particularly suitable for middle as well as senior leaders and managers.
Each participating school leaves with a Rainbow File in either English or Welsh.
Excellent Teaching for Sector Leading Practice

Teaching will be observed less during the new cycle of inspections from 2010 onwards. Schools will need to demonstrate excellent practice on the lines of enquiry related to teaching. This workshop will address the key issues on how to improve judgements on teaching.
The sessions include

- Deconstructing a lesson for improvements
- Pupil progress and outcomes
- The basic principles of excellent teaching
Effective Classroom Planning with your Teaching Assistants
Presenter: Sue Gray
Who should attend?
- Headteachers
- Senior managers
- Teachers
Although teaching will be observed less during the new cycle of inspections from 2010 onwards, the adequacy, usefulness of contributions, management and deployment of teaching assistants is included in the 2010 Framework. Consideration will also be given as to whether the school deploys teaching and support staff well and they have the knowledge and expertise to cover all aspects of the school's curriculum.
The sessions include
- The role of the teaching assistant
- Planning, monitoring and assessment
- Professional attributes we need to develop in our TAs
- Teaching and learning activities with your TAs
